SUPERHOT VR Generated More Revenue than the non-VR original

At the time of writing, VR gaming remains a niche segment of the overall market, with headsets remaining expensive on PC while Sony acts as the only true deliverer of VR within the console market. Even so, that doesn’t mean that VR games cannot be successful, as proved by Superhot VR, which has now generated more revenue than the game’s non-VR original.

Superhot VR has now sold over 800,000 copies across all platforms, making it one of the most popular VR games out there, offering players a Matrix-like experience as they take out their enemies in slow motion.

At the time of writing, only Beat Saber has managed to cross 1 million sales on VR platforms, making it the most popular retail game for VR platforms, at least as far as published numbers go.

Moving forward, VR gaming may gain some more momentum, with both Oculus and Valve planning to release new VR headsets later this year. Perhaps these newer headsets will help garner more interest in VR gaming on PC.

Superhot VR will be brought to Oculus’ new Quest headset as a lunch title for the platform, presenting the game’s developers with the opportunity to increase their game’s sales further.

Right now, Superhot VR is one of VR’s killer apps, taking advantage of the controls and the first-person perspective of VR headsets to deliver a first-rate gaming experience.
