Techland confirmed that Dying Light 2 will feature raytracing on PC

Techland has announced that they will be partnering with Nvidia to bring real-time raytracing to Dying Light 2, which is due to release sometime in early 2020. 

While neither Techland or Nvidia have revealed how raytracing will be used in Dying Light 2, it looks like the game may feature some kind of raytraced global illumination or bounce lighting. Note how light bouncing off the red generator is giving the entire scene some subtle red tint in the RTX comparison below. 

Below is a comment from Techland’s Pawel Rohleder regarding Dying Light 2’s use of raytracing. 


RTX has allowed us to push the visual boundaries of Dying Light 2. Being an open world game set in a world of the infected it’s important for us to really create as realistic an experience as possible,We’re excited to push the limits of graphic fidelity and see where the full implementation of RTX takes us.

   
Dying Light 2 will be set 15 years after the events of Dying Light. Humanity has lost fo the zombie virus and a new society has formed from the ruins of what came before. The infected stalk the night while the world’s remaining humans scavenge during the day. It is up to players to try and reclaim the world from both the infected and hostile groups of survivors. 

At this time Dying Light 2 is expected to be a DirectX 12 title on PC. As such, the game will likely support RTX raytracing using Microsoft’s DXR API.
