Techland plans to break its silence on Dying Light 2 next week

It has been a long time since Techland last discussed Dying Light 2, a fact that has left a lot of gamers concerned about the state of the project and whether or not the game would ever be released.

Today, Techland has confirmed that they will be sharing some development updates for Dying Light 2 next Wednesday, starting a new Discord server that’s dedicated to the game. On Twitter, Techland confirmed that the studio had announced Dying Light 2 “too early” but that the game’s development “keeps moving forward”.

In response to a commenter, Techland stated that Dying Light 2 is “far from being in development hell”, suggesting that the company will have a lot to show us next week.

Dying Light 2 is a large open-world title based 15 years after humanity lost the world to a zombie virus. Previously, Dying Light 2 was due to release in 2020, but now the game has no firm release date. Like the original, Dying Light 2’s gameplay will be made up of parkour and both melee and ranged combat. Unlike the original, the sequel will allow players to have a larger impact on the game world through a series of decisions that will impact the world and its factions.

It’s been 15 years since humanity lost to the virus.

The last great human settlement exists within an unforgiving, infected world, plunged into a modern dark age. During the day, bandits, factions and starving survivors roam the streets scavenging for scraps – or someone to take them from, by violence if necessary. At night the infected roam free, evacuating their dark hideouts to prey on the living.

You are Aiden Caldwell, an infected survivor. Your exceptional agility and brutal combat skills make you a powerful ally and a valuable commodity in this dangerous world. You can achieve things no one else can. Enter places no one else dares. With your unique abilities you have the power to be an agent of change within this decaying metropolis.

The fate of the city is in your hands.

Over the past year, Techland has been embroiled in a number of controversies, with the game’s narrative lead, Pawel Selinger, leaving the company while some reporters have claimed that Techland’s mismanagement has hampered the game’s development.

Techland has also had to distance itself from Chris Avellone, who was brought on as Dying Light 2’s lead writer. Avellone was pushed out of the project after allegations of sexual harassment came to light back in June 2020.

This week, Techland will shed more light on the studio’s progress with Dying Light 2 and will hopefully reveal a new release date for the title. Dying Light 2 is currently in development for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
