Ubisoft, in their recent mid-fiscal-year earning update, has revealed a strong quarter for the company with higher than expected game sales. Year-over-year the company has reported a 69% increase in digital revenue, which represents an increase of €141 million.

This increase was due to two factors, a 57% increase in the value of digital games sales and an 83% increase in what Ubisoft calls Player Recurring Investments (PRI), a fancy term for the money earned from the sale of DLC, Season Passes, Game Subscriptions and In-Game item/currency purchases.

What is most noteworthy here is that the revenue generated from RPI is now higher than the amount earned from Digital games sales, each earning €175 and $168 million respectively. While this number does account for RPI sales for both Digital and Retail games, this can be seen as a huge incentive to push more in-game purchases in the future, as players are obviously buying them.

When it comes to digital game sales, Ubisoft says that around 50% of Sout Park: The Fracture But Whole and 35% of Assassin’s Creed: Origins copies have been sold digitally, making retail sales much more prevalent than digital sales. Even so, Digital game sales have seen a huge amount of growth, with Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate only having 15% of its sales digitally.
