Plextor teases their upcoming M9Pe SSD for 2018 reveal

Plextor has aimed for the high-end of the SSD market for quite some time, seeking to bring the battle to Samsung reigning 960 Pro and Evo series SSDs in the high-end of the SSD market. In 2018 Plextor is set to release their M9Pe SSD, with the company teasing a product reveal on January 2nd on their Facebook page.

While the company didn’t name their M9Pe SSD directly, the performance shown below is undoubtedly the company’s replacement for their M8Pe series, delivering performance that sits neatly between Samsung’s 960 Pro and Evo series SSDs, with Plextor promising to provide a competitive price to performance ratio.

Competition for Samsung in the high-end SSD market is a good thing for consumers, with high-speed NVMe SSDs currently enjoying a considerable price premium over traditional SATA models. Increased competition in this space will help to drive prices down, though the higher performance levels offered by NVMe storage will always come at a premium price.

At this time it is unknown exactly what form factors the M9Pe will ship with, with M.2 and PCIe versions being likely. From the test results above we can already see that capacities of at least 1TB will release for this SSD. This information is something that we will find out in early 2018, either on January 2nd or at CES.
