Samsung posts lowered MSRPs for their 970 PRO and EVO series SSDs

Samsung’s new 970 PRO and EVO series SSDs have been officially released, offering both increased performance and increased write endurance when compared to their last-generation counterparts, providing end users with some of the best NAND-based SSDs that money can buy within the consumer market.

Today it appears as if Samsung has made some last-minute pricing adjustments to their 970 series SSD lineup, countering the recent addition of new high-end NVMe SSD models with lower pricing for both their PRO and EVO series SSDs, creating a much more competitive environment for consumers.

Below is a list of Samsung’s 970 PRO/EVO pricing changes, with the 970 EVO receiving reductions of 5-13% while the PRO has seen discounts that are as high as 25%.

The release of SSDs like the new Western Digital Black NVMe and Intel 760p have set a fire under the competitiveness of Samsung’s 900 series of SSDs, which for a long time have gone unchallenged within the high-end NVMe market. Samsung’s lowered MSRP pricing for the 970 PRO and EVO will go a long way towards ensuring Samsung’s continued dominance in the market, provided retailers stick to Samsung’s new pricing structure.

With these pricing changes, Samsung’s 970 PRO series will also be available with a much lower price premium over the 970 EVO series. This change makes the series a lot more viable on the consumer market, where price/performance ratios and price/GB metrics are often considered more important than pure performance numbers.
