ASUS ROG reveals a range of new products at CES
To start off with we will talk about some of ASUS’ latest gaming systems, with one of the company’s most impressive showing being their ROG G703, the world’s first gaming laptop with a 17.3-inch 144Hz Hull HD G-Sync display. The system also includes an overclocked i7-7820HK processor (4.3GHz) and an overclocked GTX 1080 (max boost of 1974MHz), which when combined with two NVMe SSDs in RAID-O makes this laptop perfect for both gaming and productivity. Â
The full system can use up to 64GB of 2800MHz DDR4 memory, which is a lot faster than most ordinary notebooks while also offering support for Xbox Wireless, allowing Xbox One Controllers to directly link to the system without using an external USB dongle.Â
The second consumer system on show is the Strix GL12, a full-tower gaming PC which offers up to an overclocked i7 8700K at 4.8GHz and GPUs up to Nvidia’s GTX 1080. This system offers an angular design and supports ASUS’ Aura Software, allowing users to define this PC’s lighting. ASUS has also made this system easy to upgrade using an easy-swap SSD tray for easy system upgrades. Â

On the accessories side, ASUS has launched their new ROG Strix Flare RGB keyboard, offering a clean aesthetic with Cherry MX RGB switches and USB pass-through to enable the connection of devices like mice or USB storage devices.Â
LEDs under this keyboard gives this keyboard an attractive underglow, with an acrylic insert at the top of the keyboard to offer illumination for a custom logo. Yes, ASUS gives you a second blank insert that can be etched with a custom logo.
One of ASUS’ stranges products at CES is the ROG Spotlight (below right image), which is designed to project an ROG logo on a wall or surface, allowing users to display their “ROG Pride” whenever they game. The Spotlight is magnetic, with a logo projection that is adjustable to ensure that the logo is always correctly oriented. The colour of this logo can be defined by ASUS’ Aura Software.Â

At ASUS’ CES 2017 booth we did get a quick look at the company’s Bezel-free kit, which allows the multi-monitor setup below to appear as if no bezels are present when looking at the screens directly. ASUS’ Bezel-free kit allows these three displays to appear like a single, wider display, creating a more immersive gaming experience, particularly in Project Cars 2 (as shown below).Â
The only real downside of this experimental product is the fact that not all light moves through the surface of the kit, making these portions of the screen appear dimmer, though our camera did notice this oddity much better than the human eye. The difference is a lot less noticeable in person.Â
Regardless, this product is indeed an interesting offering from ASUS, as it allows these displays to appear continuous provided you don’t focus your eyes for too long on the refracted portions of the image. It is undoubtedly a better experience than looking at the bezels in-between the two displays, though the appeal s somewhat diminished now that we have ultra-wide curved displays.Â
