Intel is reportedly making cuts to their “Intel Inside” program

A report from CRN has claimed that Intel is planning to make some major cuts to their world famous Intel Inside program, a major source of funding for OEMs and other system builders when it comes to integrating Intel hardware and marketing their products.  

The report has claimed that these cuts will be in the region of 40-60%, with these cuts coming from INtel’s Marketing and channel programs, redirecting funds to other efforts. It is suggested that this funding is moving to drive Intel’s business and data centre efforts and to improve Intel’s profits and margins. 

An Intel spokesperson has the following to say regarding the matter, confirming that changes were coming to Intel Inside, though the company does not comment on the reported reduction in funding for the program.

Over the past 26 years, many OEMs have come to rely on Intel’s Inside program as a major part of their marketing plans, with cuts of the program having the potential to increase the price of consumer hardware as these marketing costs are added to the cost of OEM systems.

If this report is true, it is likely that we will be hearing the term “Intel Inside” a lot less frequently and Intel affiliated advertising will become a lot less common, effectively leaving the door open for their competitors to more easily promote their own hardware.
