Apple releases their "Designed by Apple" picture book for $200-300
Apple has now released a book called "Designed by Apple in California", a 450-page picture book which will showcase products that were developed by Apple over the last 20 years.
This book will showcase products from 1998's iMac to the new Apple Pencil and documents and details the materials used and the techniques employed by Apple's design team. This book is dedicated to Steve Jobs, one of the companies founders.
"Designed by Apple in California" will cost $199 US for the small version and $299 US for the large version, making this an exceptionally expensive book, one that would certainly make most University-grade textbooks jealous.
While this is a design book, it is not about the design team, the creative process or product development. It is an objective representation of our work that, ironically, describes who we are. It describes how we work, our values, our preoccupations and our goals. We have always hoped to be defined by what we do rather than by what we say.
We strive, with varying degrees of success, to define objects that appear effortless. Objects that appear so simple, coherent and inevitable that there could be no rational alternative.
This book will be available starting tomorrow from Apple's website in Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, the UK and the US, and select Apple Stores. The book will be on display in any store where it is sold.
This product is by all standards a collectors item, showcasing some detailed pictures of Apple's products and designs throughout the ages and serves no real purpose. It is likely that these are some of the best photographs that you will ever see of Apple's products, though it is unlikely that many of you will be able o justify this obscene expense.
