Sony’s PlayStation Portal Handheld will be available this year for £199.99 

Sony’s Project Q handheld now has a name and a price tag. Meet the PlayStation Portal, Sony’s dedicated remote play device for PlayStation 5 consoles, a mobile device that allows gamers to play their PlayStation 5 over WIFI with a DualSense gamepad and an 8-inch screen.

With a PlayStation Portal, PS5 owners will be able to jump from their PlayStation 5 consoles to their PlayStation Portal at a moments notice, allowing gamers to play supported titles anywhere within the range of their WIFI network. If someone else if using our primary gaming screen, you will be able to enjoy your PlayStation 5 somewhere else with a PlayStation Portal. Note that the PlayStation Portal cannot stream games from a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 4 Pro.

The PlayStation Portal features a 1080p 60 FPS screen, and supports games that are installed on your PlayStation 5 console and are playable with a DualSense controller. Cloud streamed games through PlayStation Now are not supported, and neither are games that require PSVR or other peripherals.

With the PlayStation Portal, Sony are giving gamers another way to enjoy their PlayStation 5 games library. For headset users, the controller features a 3.5mm audio jack for wired audio. Below is what Sony has to say about their new device.

PlayStation Portal is the perfect device for gamers in households where they might need to share their living room TV or simply want to play PS5 games in another room of the house. PlayStation Portal will connect remotely to your PS5 over Wi-Fi**, so you’ll be able to swiftly jump from playing on your PS5 to your PlayStation Portal. PlayStation Portal can play supported games that are installed on your PS5 console and use the Dualsense controller. It also includes a 3.5mm audio jack for wired audio. PS VR2 games, which require the headset, and games that are streamed through PlayStation Plus Premium’s cloud streaming, are not supported.***

Pricing and Release Date

Sony’s PlayStation Portal remote player will be available later this year for $199.99 US, 219.99 Euro , or £199.99. More details about pre-orders and Sony’s exact release date for the device will be available at a later date.
