Nvidia fully absorbs Mellanox to create Nvidia Networking

Back in 2019, Nvidia acquired Mellanox Technologies for $7 billion, cementing the company’s position within the server market by expanding beyond graphics cards and into networking.

Now, Nvidia has rebranded Mellanox as Nvidia Networking, bringing all of the company’s products fully under the Nvidia umbrella. If you go on Mellanox’s website today, it will feature the same UI as Nvidia’s other websites, highlighting the company’s new ownership.

Mellanox specialises in cloud computing, networking and data centers, providing the technology which connects servers to each other and the broader internet. Through Mellanox, Nvidia plans to strengthen its datacenter products by offering stronger server-to-server interconnects, and GPU-to-GPU interconnects to enable faster AI computing, and lower latency interconnects. Mellanox’s existing product lines have also proven to be strong sellers in today’s market, securing Nvidia higher datacenter revenues and strong profit margins.

Bringing Mellanox under the Nvidia Networking banner is a good move from Nvidia, as it strengthens the company’s core brand and will help Nvidia market their other products to Mellanox users. At this time it is unknown if Nvidia plans to continue using the Mellanox brand name for any future products, or if it will be discarded to further Nvidia’s brand recognition.
