HYTE urges THICC Q80 Trio users to stop using the cooler over leak concerns

HYTE tells THICC Q80 users to stop using their CPU Coolers immediately

After receiving reports of its THICC Q80 TRIO CPU coolers leaking coolant upon delivery, HYTE issued an investigation and analysed affected coolers. HYTE’s failure analysis report uncovered that the THICC Q80 TRIO has a fragile component that can be damaged during shipping. Currently, it is unknown how many Q80 TRIO CPU coolers are affected by this issue, but all owners of the CPU cooler have been told to stop using their coolers immediately.

HYTE has officially told its distributors and resellers to cease using and selling Q80 series CPU coolers. Customers who purchased the cooler from HYTE will receive full refunds. These users will be told how to safely dispose of their CPU coolers in the near future. Authorised resellers will soon be reaching out to affected customers to inform them about “next steps”.

Below is HYTE’s official statement on this issue. Note that HYTE’s THICC Q60 CPU cooler uses a different design and is unaffected by this issue.

Important Update on the THICC Q80 Trio

Following the launch of HYTE’s THICC Q80 Trio liquid cooler, we received user reports of coolant leakage in some units’ packaging upon delivery. The affected products were promptly secured and sent to our manufacturer for failure analysis.

The report identified a fragile internal component that is susceptible to damage during transport. The number of impacted units is presently unknown. The damage to these coolers is internal and invisible to the end user, but may cause these liquid coolers not to function or to fail. This issue does not affect the previously released THICC Q60, which uses a different design.

Effective immediately, HYTE is directing all users to cease using the THICC Q80 Trio AIO, and to remove the cooler from their system immediately. Distributors and resellers have been notified to cease using and selling the Q80. Customers who purchased directly from HYTE.com will receive full refunds and instructions on how to safely dispose of the AIO soon. We will also notify authorized resellers to reach out to customers who have purchased this product on next steps.

The HYTE team would also like to apologize for any issues and complications caused by the latest development on the THICC Q80 Trio AIO. We are working to make this right with the community, and will be in touch with impacted customers on next steps as soon as possible.

Our thoughts on the HYTE Q80 TRIO CPU Cooler’s issues

While it is unfortunate that HYTE’s Q80 TRIO CPU coolers have issues, it is commendable to see that HYTE is addressing these challenges directly. Purchasers of the cooler through its storefront will receive automatic refunds. Furthermore, they are being open and honest about the problem. HYTE sent us their statement to report on. Lesser brands would publish their statement somewhere obscure and hope that news sites wouldn’t find it or report on it.

Hopefully, users of HYTE’s Q80 TRIO CPU coolers will receive their refunds soon.
