When it comes to PC hardware testing, it is handy to own an open air test bench, offering users unfettered access to their PC hardware and the ability to quickly and easily swap out components. These test benches are invaluable to many reviewers, overclockers and system builders, but they have a huge flaw which prevents them from being an accurate simulation of a normal closed PC/system design.

Over the year many have complained about the use of open air test benches, especially when recording thermal results in reviews. This is why it is OC3D's policy to test hardware inside proper PC cases, as it more closely matches the results that users can achieve at home.

This is why Lian Li designed their new PC-T70 open-air test bench, offering an affordable design which is usable with ATX, MATX, ITX and EATX hardware which comes with the unique ability to be upgraded with a T70-1 upgrade kit that effectively turns the PC-T70 into an enclosed PC chassis.

The PC-T70 will release at the end of May with a price of £99.99 at Overclockers UK, which is a very reasonable price for a test bench like this, especially from Lian Li. This chassis will be available in both Black and White, offering support for GPUs up to 330mm in length and up to five 2.5-inch drives + 1 3.5-inch HDD or one 2.5-inch drive and dual 3.5-inch drives.

The base PC-T70 offers support for up to a 280mm or a 360mm radiator on the bottom, with the T70-1 add-on offering support for additional fan mounts.

The PC-T70 is designed to offer the best of both worlds when it comes to PC hardware testing, being usable as a fully open-air test bench and as an enclosed chassis for more accurate/real-world hardware testing.

This chassis will release in late May for £99.99, though the price of the T70-1 add-on is unknown.

The add-ons from Lian Li are always much more difficult to source than the main bench, the fan bracket add-ons were kind of ridiculous to have separate on past benches...not that they couldn't be fabbed with a press brake and dremel.Quote
