AM4 Lives On! AMD has released new Ryzen 5000XT CPUs
AMD has released their new Ryzen 7 5800XT and Ryzen 9 5900XT CPUs
AMD’s AM4 socket lives on. AMD simply will not allow the last-generation motherboard platform to die. Today, new AMD Ryzen 5000XT series CPUs are now available. These CPUs are new, enhanced, Zen 3 CPU models that boast notable upgrades over their non-XT counterparts.
While the Ryzen 7 5800XT is simple a higher clocked version of their Ryzen 7 5800X, the Ryzen 9 5900XT offers PC builders more. Instead of a minor clock speed boost, the Ryzen 9 5900XT offers users six four additional CPU cores. That’s a 33% increase in core count over the 5900X!
Below are the price tags of AMD’s new Ryzen 5000XT CPUs.
AMD has provided PC builders on AM4 a new upgrade path. Yes, these are Zen 3 CPUs, and AMD has much stronger CPUs available. That said, upgrading your CPU alone is a much cheaper upgrade than moving to AM5, buying DDR5 memory, and upgrading to a new Ryzen 9000 series Zen 5 CPU. Even so, most PC builders and upgraders are probably better off using AMD’s existing Ryzen 5000 series CPUs, as they are often available at reduced prices. As of now, these AMD Ryzen 5000XT CPUs are a strange addition to AMD’s AM4 product line. That said, it is nice to see that AMD is still supporting AM4 this long after its 2016 launch.
