AMD delay Zen 5/Ryzen 9000 CPU launch
AMD delays their Zen 5 launch to “maintain the highest quality experiences for every Ryzen user”
AMD has announced a delay ahead of their highly anticipated Zen 5/Ryzen 9000 CPU launch. Instead of launching on July 31st, AMD’s Zen 5 CPUs will now be launching in August, and we can thank an “abundance of caution” from AMD.
Specifically, AMD’s 6-Core Ryzen 5 9600X and 8-core Ryzen 7 9700X will be released on August 8th. One week later, on August 15th, AMD’s 12-core Ryzen 9 9900X and 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X will become available.
Below is AMD’s full statement on the delay. To make a long story short, AMD found that some of their initial Ryzen 9000 production units did not meet the company’s standards. Instead of allowing these CPUs to enter circulation, AMD are working with their channel partners to find and replace these early production units. This will ensure that Zen 5 CPU buyers will have the best possible experience at launch.
We appreciate the excitement around Ryzen 9000 series processors. During final checks, we found the initial production units that were shipped to our channel partners did not meet our full quality expectations.
Out of an abundance of caution and to maintain the highest quality experiences for every Ryzen user, we are working with our channel partners to replace the initial production units with fresh units. As a result, there will be a short delay in retail availability.
The Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X processors will now go on sale on August 8th and the Ryzen 9 9950X and Ryzen 9 9900X processors will go on-sale on August 15th. We pride ourselves in providing a high-quality experience for every Ryzen user, and we look forward to our fans having a great experience with the new Ryzen 9000 series.
Thanks to this delay, AMD is making sure that their Zen 5/Ryzen 9000 launch is not hampered by a small number of sub-par CPUs. Thankfully, this issue will only delay AMD’s Ryzen 9000 CPU launch by around two weeks.
Currently, it is unknown when official reviews will go live for AMD’s new Zen 5 CPUs. Additionally, it is unknown what the official pricing for AMD’s new Ryzen 9000 CPUs are. Hopefully AMD will release this information soon.
