AMD price increases confirmed for midnight tonight

Sources confirm planned AMD price increases for midnight tonight

OC3D has confirmed, via industry sources, that AMD has informed its partners of a new price increase for its products. These price increases will take effect at midnight tonight, so buyers will not have much time to secure affected products at their current, lower prices.

No, these price increases are not related to memory prices. In fact, this price increase is unrelated to prior reports of upcoming AMD GPU price hikes. It’s AMD’s CPUs that will see a price increase. This price increase affects both Ryzen 9000-series processors and AMD’s older products. Sadly, we do not know why AMD is increasing its CPU prices; we just know that it is happening. Perhaps wafer prices are increasing? Sadly, we can only speculate right now.

This price increase comes at a time when PC memory prices have exploded. Add on a CPU price increase, and things aren’t looking good for PC builders. Pricing changes will vary by SKU. With memory and CPU price increases, the cost of building a new system have increased significantly.

(There are also rumours of an upcoming GPU price increase)

AMD’s planned CPU price increases will be implemented at Midnight. This masks AMD’s price increases as a “return to normal”, following recent Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales events. If you want to buy a new CPU, now is the time. Current AMD CPU prices will not last.

Note that these price increases are happening at the distributor level, so do not expect all retailers to hike their prices suddenly. New CPU orders from them will be at higher prices. This means that PC builders should expect to see higher prices as retailers replenish their stock.
