AMD Renoir APUs are coming to AM4 – Gigabyte Slide Confirms

According to a leaked B550 presentation from Gigabyte, AMD plans to release Renoir series Ryzen 4000G series APUs onto its AM4 socket in the near future, confirming that Zen 2 Radeon Vega products will be coming to AMD’s 500-series motherboards. This leaked slide came to us via Hassan Mujtaba on Twitter.

This slide has also detailed AMD’s planned A520 chipset, which is due to launch in August. A520 is due to replace A320 as AMD’s entry-level AM4 platform, boasting PCIe 4.0 support and more limited capabilities than the company’s new B550 mainboards. 

Earlier this week, specifications for AMD’s Renoir-based Ryzen 7 4700G processor leaked onto the internet, revealing an 8-core Zen 2 processor design which also featured a 7nm Vega 8 graphics component with 2100MHz GPU clock speeds. This is the first 8-core desktop processor from AMD to feature integrated graphics.    

Like AMD’s mobile Renoir processors, the company’s desktop Renoir-based silicon will feature PCIe 3.0 support. PCIe 4.0 support is not present on this mobile-optimised silicon. 

This slide was created before AMD backtracked on its AM4 support plans for Ryzen 4th Gen, Vermeer, processors. Now, AMD plans to release BIOS updates to support Ryzen 4000 series (Zen 3) processors B450 and X470 motherboards, though at this time it is unknown if these updates will also enable Ryzen 4000G (Zen 2) APUs.
