AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Box and Details Leak
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Box Pictured and Specifications Detailed
Today, we saw our first image of AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D box and new details for the processor from Moore’s Law is Dead. Since the box design is finalised, it is clear that AMD is preparing to launch its first X3D-enhanced Zen 5 processor. It is claimed that this CPU will launch sometime in 2024, with recent rumours suggesting a November release.
Full specifications for this CPU are unknown. However, Moore’s Law is Dead claims that the CPU has “104MB” of Cache and is “designed for increased frequencies”. This suggests that the 9800X3D will have the same amount of V-Cache as the 7800X3D. The CPU’s higher clock design should help AMD’s new Zen 5 gaming CPU deliver notable generational performance gains over its predecessor, alongside any other enhancements Zen 5 offers.
AMD will be marketing their Ryzen 7 9800X3D as the “Ultimate Processor for Elite Gaming”. It should also be marketed as “the best” CPU in AMD’s gaming lineup. Other Zen 5 X3D CPUs are due to be launched by AMD in 2025. This includes the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and Ryzen 9 9950X3D. Furthermore, AMD’s new Ryzen 7 9800X3D may be marketed with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (a game bundle perhaps?).
Overall, gamers have found AMD’s Ryzen 9000 series to be disappointing. However, this may change with AMD’s new X3D CPUs. Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs should benefit from higher CPU clock speeds and Zen 5’s architectural enhancements. This should give AMD’s Zen 5 X3D CPUs a larger generational boost than their non-X3D counterparts. If AMD has any other tricks up their sleeves with their next-gen X3D tech, Zen 5 X3D could be an exciting product launch.
