AMD's Threadripper 1950X has been overclocked to 5.2Ghz on LN2

At AMD's Capsaicin event at Siggraph 2017, the company hosted an on-site LN2 overclocking event where an overclocker called LUCKY_NOOB was able to overclock AMD's new Threadripper 1950X to almost 5.2GHz (5.187GHz) and achieve a Cinebench R15 score of 4122 points.

This score is a new world record for 16-core CPUs, though this overclock did use some rather low memory speeds of 2133MHz to achieve this score. This low memory speed was used to eliminate the IMC as a factor that could limit CPU core overclocking, though there is potential for faster memory speeds could help even higher scores to be achieved with AMD's 1950X in the future.

2017 brings with it the first generation of CPUs to offer both ultra-high core counts (10 cores or more) and overclocking capabilities, which means that there will certainly be more competition when it comes to LN2 overclocking moving forward.

Sadly AMD's Ryzen Threadripper CPUs are not going to achieve this level of performance when running on standard air or water cooling configuration, as we shouldn't expect these new CPUs to overclock any better than the AMD Ryzen CPU dies that are used to create Threadripper.

Insane score. Shame it's LN2 though.

Edit. Threadripper is actually insane, man. I score just about 2080 on my best run. That's 14/28 Broadwell E @ 2.8ghz. However, 16 core in a crappy Alienware (it looks worse inside than mine did !) is scoring over 3000.

Man, imagine you'd have told some one a couple of years back when they were getting like 800cb @ 5ghz on a 83xx overclocked that AMD would have a CPU two years later that could score over 3000 stock. That's actually frikkin' mind bending !Quote
