AMD's Vice President says that Zen will compete favourably with Intel

AMD's Corporate Vice President, John Taylor, has been quoted stating that AMD's upcoming 14nm Zen CPUs will compete favourably with Intel on "performance, power and specifications - not just price".

He has also claimed that for the first time since he had joined the company back in 2006 that he has absolute confidence that they have the products and the business strategy to change their brand's perception in the PC market.

For the first time since I have been at AMD, I can say with absolute confidence that AMD has the products and strategies to change any negative perceptions customers may have had.

AMD has moved ‘upstream’ with its support from HP in the new business class Elitebook and believe me we will get into premium products like Dell XPS, Lenovo Yoga, and HP Spectre and many more

John Taylor says that with Zen and Polaris AMD will be in a much stronger position in the market, bringing them closer to Intel than they have been for many years. John also stated that the world needed a strong competitor to Intel in order to keep the company honest and the drive innovation.

By the end of the year, AMD will have moved on, to both its Zen CPU core as well as the Polaris graphics architecture. We are far close to Intel than ever before – you always need a number two to keep them honest,

AMD's new Zen architecture is designed to be a significant leap in terms of both performance and efficiency, hopefully making AMD's CPU lineup competitive with Intel both in the consumer, datacenter and high-performance computing markets.

Right now AMD says that their new Zen architecture will have a 40% increase in IPC compared to AMD's current Excavator CPU designs, making it a historical leap in performance for AMD.

If there's gonna be a chip that comfortably beats my OC'd 3570K at stock speeds I'll happily get one of those, if it doesn't come at Intel pricingQuote
