AMD has today showcased a Zen CPU operating with the same clock/clock performance as Intel's Broadwell-E 6900K in Blender.

In AMD's testing they clocked both their Zen CPU and Intel i7 6900K at 3.0GHz and ran the same render on Blender, where AMD's Zen CPU actually managed to beat out Intel, even if it was only just.

This means that AMD's clock/clock performance has improved to the degree that they can now be competitive with Intel in terms of single core performance, though right now it remains to be seen if AMD's CPUs can keep up with Intel when used with other applications.

In the video below AMD also showcased Deus Ex: Mankind Divided playing at 4K when using AMD's "Summit Ridge" Zen CPU, showcasing that the CPU is gaming ready and capable of running even the most demanding of titles.

Last night AMD provided a glimpse of its next-generation “Zen” processor core, highlighting how the new grounds-up architecture achieves the most stunning performance leap increase in generational performance in AMD’s history.

It will be very interesting to see exactly how high AMD's Zen CPUs will clock once they hit retail, as this level of clock/clock performance is much higher than anything that we have seen before from AMD.

Hopefully, AMD will be able to release Zen with clock speeds that exceed 3GHz when they launch later this year, as that would be very disruptive to Intel's current market dominance in the high end of the market.

Seems hopeful. Of course I'll wait until I see some real world applications and reviews from third parties until I truly believe AMD are back in the CPU game.Quote

Talk is cheap, Ship them even if only to review sites... they can test and maybe we will buy. Quote
