AMD to Reveal Callisto based Phenom II X2 at Computex

AMD is reportedly planning the launch of its new Callisto based Phenom II X2 500 series at Computex next month. The CPU will be AMD’s first 45nm dual core processor and will mark an important step forward for the chip manufacturer.

Derived from the quad-core Deneb processor that has two disabled cores, Callisto is AMD’s latest, highly-anticipated 45nm dual-core offering. AMD is expected to unveil two processors – the Phenom II X2 550 and the Phenom II X2 545 – based on this platform at Computex.

Clocked at an impressive 3.1GHz, the Phenom II X2 550 is expected to steal the show among the two. With a 2x512KB L2 cache and a massive 6MB L3 cache, the 550 is also one of AMD’s fastest CPUs till date. The Black Edition of the Phenom II X2 550, also expected at Computex, is reportedly an overclocker’s delight; if you are lucky, you might also be able to unlock the other cores to further boost its power.

The Phenom II X2 545 on the other hand comes with the same basic specifications as its more illustrious partner. But clocked lower at 3.0GHz and with a TDP of 80W, it might not command the same awe as the 550. Moreover, it is also not likely to have an unlocked Black Edition.
