AMD’s already breaking records with their Zen 5 Ryzen 9 9950X CPU
AMD pushes their Ryzen 9 9950X past 6GHz at their Zen 5 Tech Day
AMD is pushing their Ryzen 9000 series as a true enthusiasts platform. We have already talked about AMD’s new Zen 5/Ryzen 9000 overclocking features, but at their tech day AMD showcased these features in action. Ahead of launch, AMD has already delivered world record performance levels with their 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X Zen 5 processor. AMD’s Extreme Overclocking team has outdone themselves.
Using an ASUS ROG X670E Crosshair Gene motherboard and a Ryzen 9 9950X, AMD’s overclocking team achieved an overclock of 6.3GHz using LN2 (liquid Nitrogen) cooling. The team also highlighted the performance of AMD’s stock Zen 5 processor, and the CPU’s performance using Precision Boost Overdrive and AMD’s new Curve Shaper features.
At stock, AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X achieve a Cinebench R23 score of 41,924. With Precision Boost Overdrive and XMP enabled, that score jumped to 43,895. With extra optimisation through AMD’s new Curve Shaper overclocking feature, a score of 44,762 was achieved. That’s almost 7% higher than AMD’s stock 16-core score.
Using LN2, AMD achieved a Cinebench R23 score of 53,604. That’s nearly 28% higher than AMD’s stock score. That’s a huge overclock, and benchmarkers may be able to push for even higher scores over the coming weeks.
In benchmarks like wPrime, AMD’s stock result for their Ryzen 9 9950X is shockingly close to the existing world record. With an LN2 overclock, AMD easily achieved a new world record result with a 1.414 time.
During the event, AMD’s overclocking team confirmed to us that they could push their CPUs further than 6.3 GHz with further tweaking. With AMD running multiple extreme overclocking demos during their Zen 5 tech day, it’s understandable that AMD’s overclocking team were not going all out for every benchmark run.
