AMD’s Ryzen 7 7700X3D is now available, and its price doesn’t make sense
AMD’s Ryzen 7 7700X3D currently costs more than a 7800X3D – What!?
AMD unveiled its Ryzen 7 7700X3D CPU at Computex 2026, and it promised to be an excellent budget-oriented gaming CPU for socket AM5. Today, that CPU is available worldwide, and its price is a mess. As it stands, this CPU retails at a price similar to AMD’s faster Ryzen 7 7800X3D, and in some cases, the 7800X3D costs less.
AMD’s Ryzen 7 7700X3D is a Ryzen 7800X3D with lower clock speeds. The CPU is supposed to be a slower, more affordable alternative to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. As it stands, this new model appears to offer gamers less value than its bigger brother, and that’s a problem.

AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D price VS Ryzen 7 7800X3D
If I were to buy an 8-core Zen 4 X3D CPU today, I would be best off buying a Ryzen 7 7800X3D. The CPU is currently available for a lower price. Better still, the CPU has base/boost clock speeds that are 200 MHz/500 MHz higher than the 7700X3D. Both CPUs have the same 120W TDP, so there is currently no upside to buying a 7700X3D.

Honestly, this CPU launch has left me a little baffled. If it isn’t more affordable, why does the Ryzen 7 7700X3D exist? Perhaps AMD’s new X3D CPU will become cheaper than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D over time? That said, this still leaves this CPU with a questionable price tag at launch.
While the Ryzen 7 7700X3D is undoubtedly a good gaming CPU, it doesn’t mean PC builders shouldn’t buy the Ryzen 7 7800X3D instead. The prices are so similar that buyers might as well buy the faster CPU. With some retailers offering the 7800X3D at a lower price, there is no reason to buy a 7700X3D today. How unfortunate.
For PC builders with a little more money to spare, AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D is available for £349.99. With higher clock speeds and AMD’s newer Zen 5 architecture, this CPU is one of the best gaming CPUs on the market. For those with a little extra money, the £374.99 Ryzen 7 9850X3D is AMD’s fastest 8-core gaming CPU on AM5.
