AMD’s 1st Generation Threadripper CPUs are selling for gloriously low prices

AMD’s 1st Generation Ryzen Threadripper series CPUs are starting to sell at bargain basement prices, bringing AMD’s 16-core Ryzen Threadripper 1950X below the price of Intel’s i9-9900K, a steal of a price for those who know how to put those cores/threads to work.

Even more of a steal is AMD’s 12-core Ryzen Threadripper 1920X, which ships for £299.99, a price tag that is similar to AMD’s 8-core Ryzen 7 2700X. If you plan to put the higher core/thread count or the X399 platform’s insane PCIe lane count to work, Threadripper has never been so accessibly priced.

While the 8-core 1900X is also available, we would recommend avoiding it, as while the additional PCIe lanes of X399 are useful, CPU-wise you are likely better off getting a Ryzen 7 2700X and a cheaper X470 motherboard, or move to the 12-core 1920X.

Ryzen Threadripper 16-core 32-Thread 1950X – £529.99
Ryzen Threadripper 12-core 24-Thread 1920X – £299.99
Ryzen Threadriooer 8-core 16-Thread 1900X – £248.99

Even at launch, AMD’s Threadripper series processors were bargains, assuming that your workloads were suited to their vast core counts. Now, Threadripper’s pricing has dropped so far that they have almost made 12-core processors feel mainstream. Remember early 2017? When the 8-core Ryzen 7 1800X released for £449.99? Yeah, things have changed a lot since then.
