ASUS Republic of Gamers has finally shown their upcoming Maximus VIII Extreme motherboard for Intel Skylake taking the position as flagship of ASUS’ Z170 lineup.

This motherboard will include several extra features when compared to Intel’s existing Republic of Gamers lineup, adding a beefier set of heatsinks, 4 full length PCIe slots and even a U.2 port for ultra fast NVMe based SSD storage.

The ASUS Republic of Gamers Maximus VIII Extreme will include the many great features that the lower end ROG offering support, with a RGB illuminated ROG logo on the chipset heatsink, premium Supreme FX audio components and a large number of both USB 3.0 and 3.1 ports on this motherboards rear IO.

One of the most noteworthy additions to this motherboard is for storage connectivity. Alongside it’s M.2 slot this motherboard also has a U.2 slot, which allows this motherboard to be connected to a U.2/NVMe SSD without the need for an M.2 to U.2 adapter.

Over the next year we expect NVMe devices to become much more commonly available, so it is likely that this will be a highly sough after feature in time.

ASUS’ Maxumis VIII Extreme motherboards have always been impressive, offering some of the top motherboards for generation after generation of CPUs.
