Trying to improve its position in the high-end motherboard segment, Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) on November 23 launched its new motherboard, the ECS PN2 SLI2+ Extreme, for the Taiwan market. The launch event was conducted together with Nvidia.
Designed to support Intel’s CPU platform, the PN2 SLI2+ Extreme is based on Nvidia’s nForce 680i MCP (media and communications processor). Featuring three PCI Express x16 slots, the board provides the third one to solutions enhancing 3D game and graphics performance, according to the company’s press release.
According to a November 24 Chinese-language Commercial Times report, it was Foxconn Electronics (the registered trade name of Hon Hai Precision Industry) to manufacture the PN2 SLI2+ Extreme at the beginning, since ECS had its own production lines fully booked in September and October. ECS has been producing the board at its own plant for a month, the paper quoted sources at ECS as saying.
For this quarter, ECS also plans a Taiwan launch for another new motherboard, the PN1 SLI2, which is based on the Nvidia nForce 590 SLI MCP. Next quarter, the company will introduce two more motherboards – the NF650i SLI T-A for the Intel platform and the GF68M-M for the AMD platform, according to company sources. The GF68M-M motherboard will incorporate either the Nvidia GeForce 6100S GPU (graphics processing unit) or the nForce 405 MCP.
