Great gaming value? AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D CPU leaks

Is the Ryzen 7 7700X3D the new PC gaming value king?

According to the leaker chilleddog, AMD’s planning to release a new value-oriented version of its popular Ryzen 7 7800X3D gaming CPU called the Ryzen 7 7700X3D. Even today, the 7800X3D remains a great value option for PC gamers, coming in with a much lower price than the 9800X3D while retaining excellent gaming performance.

With the Ryzen 7 7700X3D, AMD is delivering a broadly similar gaming CPU with slightly lower clock speeds. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D features base/boost clock speeds of 4.2/5.0 GHz, and the 7700X3D reportedly has base/boost clock speeds of 4.0/4.5 GHz. That’s a boost clock speed decrease of 10%, and a base clock speed decrease of less than 5%. It retains the 7800X3D’s main selling point, its 96MB of L3 Cache. This cache keeps more data on chip, accelerating several workloads (especially gaming workloads).

If this CPU is real, AMD could position it as a value gaming champion. Currently, AMD’s Ryzen 7 7800X3D is available for £314. AMD could position its lower-end 7700-series X3D variant as a sub-£300 8-core X3D gaming CPU. That would be a very attractive CPU for budget-conscious PC builders.

Honestly, if AMD can produce this CPU cost-effectively, it would be a solid product. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D and 9850X3D would remain the best overall CPU options for PC gamers, but this new option would easily outperform anything Intel has to offer (at least in gaming workloads). It would also help make high-performance gaming PCs more affordable, a welcome prospect given the price of DRAM and SSDs.
