Intel Appoints Lip-Bu Tan as its new CEO
Lip-Bu Tan will become Intel’s CEO on March 18th
Intel officially has a new CEO. On March 18th, Lip-Bu Tan will become the CEO of Intel, succeeding Co-CEO’s David Zinsner and Michelle (MJ) Johnston Holthaus.
Lip-Bu Tan is a former member of Intel’s board of directors, and the CEO of Cadence Design Systems between 2009 and 2021. He has worked extensively within the technology sector, and his experience at Cadence will be vital as Intel moves to become a TSMC competitor with its Foundries. Cadence Design System specialises in the software used to design integrated circuits, SOCs, and more. He has also served on the boards of Nuvia, Habana Labs, SMIC, and more.
David Zinsner will remain executive vice president and chief financial officer and Michelle (MJ) Johnston Holthaus will remain executive vice president and chief financial officer.
Lip Bu-Tan was a member of Intel’s board until August 2024, where he resigned citing frustrations with the company. He reportedly claimed that the company’s workforce was “bloated” and that the company had a “risk-averse culture.” The latter is the reason why Intel failed to deliver on AI.
With Lip-Bu Tan at the head of Intel, we will likely see Intel reformed in the years to come. Tan seems committed to Intel’s foundry ambitions and delivering world-class products.
