Intel Cobra Lake CPU core architecture revealed – a Royal Core successor

Companies like AMD and Intel take years to bring new CPUs to market, which means that they need to plan their CPUs far in advance. Leaked information has already revealed the names of future Intel CPU core designs, such as “Core Royal”, which reportedly will arrive after Panther Lake. Now, a new core design called “Cobra Core” has emerged, being uncovered by the data miners at Gamma0Burst.

As expected, this new CPU core design focuses on “more power efficiency and high performance”. This information comes from the LinkedIn profile of an Intel employee. Intel Cobra Core will be an x86 CPU architecture, confirming the company’s commitment to x86. Honestly, Intel would be foolish to move away from x86, as core design matters a lot more than ISA (instruction Set Architecture) today.

Sadly, we know nothing about Intel’s new “Cobra” architecture besides its basic design aims. With Arrow Lake, Intel will be debuting their new “Lion Cove” CPU cores on the desktop. With “Royal Core” being Lion Cove’s alleged successor, we are unlikely to see this new “Cobra” CPU design anytime soon. At best, we are 3-4 years away from seeing this new core design come to market.
