Intel’s new E-cores promise 32% IPC gains over last-gen – Impressive Arrow Lake results
Slides detailing Intel’s new Core Ultra 200 processors have leaked. These slides detail the IPC gains of Intel’s “Arrow Lake” CPU core designs, with improvements in both E-cores and P-cores.
Intel’s Arrow Lake CPUs use core designs similar to those of their recently released Lunar Lake mobile CPUs. However, minor changes make them better suited to the desktop CPU market. At their core, these are still Skymont E-cores and Lion Core P-cores, like Lunar Lake.
Overall, Intel’s new Lion Cove CPU cores are said to deliver 9% IPC gains over Intel’s Raptor Cove CPU cores. Additionally, their Skymont E-cores are said to deliver 32% IPC gains over their Gracemont counterparts. These changes should result in higher single-threaded and multi-threaded performance from Intel’s newest processors.

Below, we have a slide detailing the single-threaded performance gains of Intel’s new P-cores compared to their i9-14900K and AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X. Note that Intel’s new Ultra 9 285K CPU is 8% faster on average than the i9-14900K and 4% faster than AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X.
We will need to test Arrow Lake across a wider variety of applications to properly access the performance of Intel’s newest CPUs. That said, the results below are rather unimpressive. However, Intel’s huge E-core IPC gains could do wonders for Intel’s multi-threaded CPU performance. After all, 32% IPC gains will deliver a huge boost to Intel’s E-cores!

The leak of what appears to be official Intel slides is a sign that we will likely hear a lot more about Arrow Lake soon. Will Arrow Lake deliver an impressive performance leap for Intel, or will it be an unexciting CPU launch?
