Intel reportedly informs PC makers of incoming CPU price hikes

Intel reportedly plans 10% CPU price hike at the end of this month

According to a report from ETNews, Intel has informed its customers about a price hike that will apply to “most major products” in its CPU lineup at the end of this month. CPU prices will reportedly rise by 10%, placing greater cost burdens on consumers and PC manufacturers.

The past six months have already been bad for PC manufacturers, as rising memory prices have dramatically increased the cost of new PCs. This has impacted the profitability of PC markets and has made high-end PCs unaffordable for many.

Right now, Intel is reportedly constrained by its manufacturing capabilities. Intel is having a tough time producing all the chips its customers demand, and Intel’s costs are rising. The AI boom has driven up the prices of many chipmaking materials, raising the manufacturing cost of newly manufactured processors. With its limited manufacturing capabilities, Intel has reportedly prioritised server/enterprise processors over consumer CPUs, creating a consumer CPU shortage.

Intel is raising the price of its PC central processing units (CPUs) by 10%. Amidst difficulties securing profitability due to skyrocketing memory semiconductor prices, the increase in the price of CPUs—a core component—is expected to intensify the cost burden on PC manufacturers.

According to industry sources on the 19th, Intel informed its major clients of its plan to raise PC CPU prices by 10% starting at the end of this month. It is reported that most major products within Intel’s diverse CPU lineup are subject to the price hike.

Analysts suggest that Intel is raising PC CPU prices to secure profitability, as a supply-demand imbalance is emerging where the supply of consumer products is shrinking due to a surge in demand for semiconductors used in artificial intelligence (AI) data centers.

If this report is correct, it will be hard for PC manufacturers to maintain their current pricing. Higher CPU and memory costs are a one-two punch that will hit manufacturers hard. Consumers will also feel the strain, as these higher prices will ultimately pass on to them.
