Intel delays desktop Broadwell-E until 2016

It looks like Intel's code-named “Broadwell-E” CPUs have been delayed until 2016 for high-end desktops. At present the reasons why are unclear, but we know so far is that they will compatable with all current X99 motherboards and by made using Intel's 14nm process technology.

The Broadwell-E lineup will resemble the existing Haswell-E series chips. The new CPUs will feature six or eight cores, up to 20MB of last-level-cache, quad-channel DDR4 memory support, PCI Express 3.0 lanes and a maximum thermal design power (TDP) or 140W.

Intel delays desktop Broadwell-E until 2016

According to the Chinese website VR-Zone Intel plans on sending pre-ES's of Breadwell-E CPUs to partners in Q2 2015, Engineering Samples in week 36 of 2015 and plan on releasing the final retail product in Q1 2016.

Broadwell-E is not expected to be very different from the Haswell-E release, in terms of feature-set and pricing. When Quad-core z97 Braodwell is released to the public we will see how much extra CPU (per-core) performance Broadwell has compared to Haswell, hopefully the performance gains will be more substantial than that of recent generations.

Yeah the E variants are usually a year later. It makes me wonder how soon broadwell will be?Quote

I'm curios if they will release some new broadwell processors this year. Since the broadwell-e has been delayed to 2016 I guess we won't see any desktop broadwell processors in 2014 ;(Quote

No, this is way too early because Haswell-E literally just came out. Unless this is meant to be like Sandy->Ivy but still too soon.Quote
