Intel Skylake to Debut at Gamescom 2015

Intel are going to debut their 6th generation Skylake processors at Gamescom 2015, so expect the platform to launch on August 5th.

The platform will debut with two chips, both unlocked quad core chips which will be using Intel's newest LGA 1151 platform. These chips will be the i5 6600K and the i7 6700K, which are both unlocked and will support both DDR3 and DDR4 memory types and can be used and overclocked on motherboards based on Intel's newest Z170 chipset.

Memory support on Intel's Skylake platform will be entirely dependent on your motherboard, where some motherboards will support DDR3 memory and others will support DDR4. Those wishing to use Skylake CPU will have to choose their preferred memory type when deciding on your motherboard.

Other locked Skylake CPUs are expected to be released in late August or early September, with a mobile release planned around the same time.

This will be an interesting launch for sure. I am sure there will be a section of the review dedicated to DDR3 vs DDR4.Quote

If only it were a real upgrade... Which it doesn't seem to be, sadly. I hope that Tom will review both the i7 and the i5.Quote
