Intel’s i9-11900KF reportedly runs very hot – 98 degrees on a 360mm CLC

According to a post from Chiphell, (thanks @9550pro) we have seen how hot Intel’s upcoming i9-11900KF could get under load. In their post, Chiphell users Enthusiastic Citizen reported that Intel’s Rocket Lake i9-11900KF could reach temperatures of 98 degrees under load with an “entry 360 AIO”.

If this report is legitimate, it looks like Intel’s 11th Generation processors will run very hot, even when using expensive all-in-one liquid coolers. The poster also stated that the CPU was running at 1.325V and was using AVX3, also known as AXV-512. The CPU was also reported as consuming 250 watts of power. 

With this CPU using AVX-512 during this test, it is worth noting that this workload is much harsher than almost anything that mainstream users will be doing. On Intel’s existing AVX-512 compatible processors, utilising the feature is a quick way to see your temperatures skyrocket. If Intel’s Skylake-X and Cascade Lake-X series processors are anything to go by, AXV-512 will generate a lot of heat on Intel’s 11th Generation Rocket Lake processors. Non-AVX-512 workloads will be a lot easier to manage thermally.

Even if this leak is legitimate, it is worth remembering that AVX-512 will only be utilised in a minority of today’s workloads. Beyond that, we do not know what make or model of liquid cooler was used for this test. For all, we know it was a budget-oriented 360mm cooler, many of which can deliver less coming performance than high quality 240mm liquid coolers. We will need to wait for reviews before we can conclude that Rocket Lake runs hot.
