MediaTek deliver huge CPU and GPU gains with its Dimensity 9500 CPU

MediaTek launches its Dimensity 9500 with “3rd generation All Big Core design”

MediaTek has just launched its new Dimensity 9500 chipset, targeting new 5G smartphones with enhanced performance, improved power efficiency, and innovative CPU, GPU, and NPU designs.

CPU-wise, this new SOC features MediaTek’s 3rd Gen “All Big Core” design. This CPU features a 4.21 GHz Ultra Core, three premium cores, and four performance cores. This CPU claims to offer 32% more single-threaded performance and 17% more multi-threaded performance than its predecessor. With its “Ultra Core”, this CPU achieves 55% lower power consumption at peak performance, resulting in increased productivity and longer battery life.

With its ARM Mali-G1 Ultra GPU, the 9500 features two times as many ray tracing units as before. Overall, the chip delivers 119% more ray tracing performance than its predecessor. Additionally, it delivers 33% increased peak GPU performance and 42% greater power efficiency at peak performance levels. This makes MediaTek’s new SOC faster and more power efficient. This GPU supports Unreal Engine 5.6, including features like Nanite and MegaLights.

With MediaTek’s 9th-gen NPU 990 and second-generation AI engine, it doubles compute power and delivers power efficiency increases. AI token generation speed is reportedly 2x faster and this NPU reportedly supports 4K AI image generation.

Additions like MediaTek 5G Ultrasave also increase 5G power efficiency by 10%. It also supports 5CC-CA, enabling 7.4 Gbps speeds with sub-6 GHz connections Bluetooth reach has also been increased by 35%.

Overall, this new chipset delivers performance gains in all areas, making new smartphones more powerful and energy-efficient. MethaTek says that the first smartphones using its Dimensity 9500 SOC will launch in Q4 2025.
