MSI addresses Intel Core 13th and 14th Gen CPU Instability – Confirms incoming fix

MSI updates Intel Core 13th/14th generation CPU users on upcoming instability fix

MSI has released an official statement regarding the instability of Intel Core 13th/14th generation Raptor Lake desktop CPUs. Like Intel, they have confirmed that a BIOS update with a microcode fix is due to be released in mid-August. This fix should prevent more CPUs from becoming unstable.

Currently, it is unknown whether or not this BIOS update will be enough fix already unstable Intel CPUs. If not, then Intel may be forced to create a CPU replacement program after this update is released. In that case, this saga could prove to be very expensive to resolve. Basically, this could be Intel’s version of the Xbox “Red Ring of Death” fiasco, which cost the company over $1 billion to address.

Sadly, MSI’s update provides no new information about the ongoing Intel instability saga. It is likely that MSI doesn’t know much more than consumers here, which means that they can only confirm Intel’s BIOS/microcode update plans.

Regarding the recent Intel Core 13th /14th Gen desktop processors instability, MSI has worked closely with Intel to understand the situation and is closely monitoring the progress. We will provide the updated BIOS to our customers and users as soon as possible after the new microcode is released in the middle of August. Stay tuned.

Hopefully, Intel will be able to resolve their Raptor Lake desktop CPU issues with this new BIOS update. That said, it remains to be seen how this update will affect already unstable Intel CPUs. Have these CPUs been permanently damaged or degraded? Will this BIOS update only prevent more CPUs from becoming unstable? I guess we will find out next month.
