MSI throws its competitors under the bus with “true WIFI 7” support claims

MSI throws shade at ASUS and Gigabyte over their WIFI 7 support claims

One of the main feature add-ons of today’s newest motherboards is support for the WIFI 7 standard. With WIFI 7, users can achieve the fastest possible wireless network connectivity, assuming they have a compatible PC and WIFI setup. Now, MSI has thrown shade at its competitors, claiming they do not offer “True WIFI 7” support across their motherboard lineups. With MSI, all of their new AMD X870 AM5 motherboards support WIFI 7 with 320Hz. The same isn’t true for their competitors.

MSI claims that ASUS and Gigabyte (they redacted the names, but “Team A” and “Team G” make things very clear) only offer 160Hz WIFI 7 support on many of their products. This limits the maximum bandwidth that is available with WIFI 7, leading to sub-optimal networking performance. MSI offers 320Hz “True WIFI 7” on all of their new AMD X870 motherboards. This enables 5.8G transfer speeds.

In effect, WIFI 7 at 160 MHz is very similar to WIFI 6E. Both use 6GHz frequency bands at 160 MHz. To access the full capabilities of WIFI 7, users need 320 MHz support on both their client and host devices.

It’s worth noting that higher-end ASUS and Gigabyte motherboards both support 320 MHz WIFI 7. This means that MSI’s claimed “True WIFI 7” support is only a differentiator for their lower-end X870 AM5 motherboards. That said, this factor will only matter for those who have expensive WIFI 7 networking equipment and those who don’t use a wired internet connection for their PCs.
