Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU availability to steadily improve this quarter – AMD claims
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU availability will improve this quarter
AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU has proven incredibly popular, so much so that CPU supply is not keeping up with demand. The 9800X3D is currently the best gaming CPU on the market. Furthermore the recent launches of CPU-heavy games like STALKER 2, Space Marine 2, and Dragon’s Dogma 2 are fueling a lot of PC upgrades.
AMD has confirmed that it is working hard to increase the market supply of its top gaming CPU. In a statement to Paul Alcorn, an AMD representative stated that “more processors are being shipped every week” and that availability will get better “as shipments ramp throughout this quarter.
For now, gamers will have to wait for CPU availability to improve for AMD’s newest X3D processor. At CES 2025, AMD is expected to reveal more Ryzen 9000 X3D CPUs alongside new 800-series AM5 motherboards. This will give AMD customers more CPU and motherboard options to choose from.
AMD on 9800X3D shortage: "[…]We are working diligently to get as much supply to market as soon as possible, with more processors being shipped every week. We expect availability to get better as shipments ramp throughout the quarter."

Currently, it looks like AMD did not expect demand to be this high for their latest X3D CPU. Day-1 stock quickly disappeared from retailers, and demand remains sky-high. Note that part of this high demand is the poor gaming performance of Intel’s Core Ultra Arrow Lake CPUs. After all, demand for strong gaming CPUs has to go somewhere, and hardware enthusiasts aren’t choosing Intel Arrow Lake over Ryzen 9000 X3D for gaming. I doubt AMD expected Intel’s Arrow Lake CPUs to perform so poorly in gaming workloads.
