SoftBank has completed their acquisition of ARM

The UK-based mobile CPU maker ARM has now been purchased by Japan's Softbank for £24 billion, approximately $31 Billion. This comes after the acquisition was first announced in July 2016.

ARM is one of the world's leading semiconductor companies, designing the highly efficient and scalable ARM CPUs that can be found in almost every modern tablet or mobile phone. Right now over 60 Billion ARM-based chips have been shipped and over 300 companies have licensed their technology, allowing the company to earn a lot of money over the past few years through royalties.

It has been confirmed that ARM is to be delisted from the London Stock Exchange on the 6th of September. Right now ARM states that their HQ will remain in Cambridge and that they have plans to double their staff over the next 5 years.

Right now it looks like Softbank intends to preserve the UK tech firm's organisational structure and maintain the business' existing partnership-based business model, hopefully meaning that the sale will not negatively affect the UK's technology sector.
