AMD discontinues their Radeon RX 7900 GRE – Report Claims
AMD declares their Radeon RX 7900 GRE “end of life” ahead of their RDNA 4 launch
According to a report from Tweakers, AMD has declared its Radeon RX 7900 GRE graphics card “end of life.” Several AMD partners have confirmed that GPU production has been discontinued. This means that the stock of this GPU should disappear from the market soon, making it unavailable.
AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 GRE was initially launched as an Asia-exclusive graphics card but was released globally earlier this year. After its global release, AMD boosted the overclocking potential of these GPUs with new Radeon graphics drivers. This made the Radeon RX 7900 GRE much more appealing to PC gamers, as significant performance gains could be achieved through overclocking.
The discontinuation of this GPU isn’t unexpected. AMD is expected to launch next-generation RDNA 4-based graphics cards at CES 2024. These GPUs will replace AMD’s high-end RX 7000 series offerings, giving AMD no reason to continue producing their last-generation hardware.
With RDNA 4, AMD is expected to deliver a giant leap in AI and ray tracing performance. As such, it doesn’t make sense to buy a high-end Radeon RX 7000 series GPU right now. If you can wait, you probably should. After all, the GPU market is going to change next month. AMD has RDNA 4, and Nvidia has their RTX 50 series. Both launches will transform the GPU market.
