AMD fixes error – USB-C Power isn’t disabled on Radeon RX 7900 series GPUs
AMD corrects mistake in its driver release notes – USB-C power remains active on Radeon RX 7900 series GPUs
AMD has corrected an error in its AMD Software 25.10.2 release notes, which stated that USB-C power delivery would be disabled on AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX graphics cards. They confirmed that this was a mistake and have updated their driver release notes to reflect this change. AMD has not removed this functionality from their graphics cards.
It is worth noting that not all Radeon RX 7900 series GPUs support USB-C connectivity. These USB-C ports feature DisplayPort 201 passthrough and can provide power through USB’s PD 3.0 standard. This allows AMD’s GPU to deliver up to 30W of power to connected devices. AMD’s reference “Made by AMD” (MBA) RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX GPUs both feature USB-C ports.
We’d like to inform you that the release notes for AMD Software Adrenalin Edition 25.10 2 posted today included misinformation that has since been corrected. There is no change to USB-C functionality on the RX 7900 series GPUs in the 25.10.2 driver. There was an incorrect line in the originally posted release notes that has been removed, and the release notes have been updated. We apologize for any inconvenience.
– AMD to TechPowerUp
This USB-C error is far from the most controversial thing that happened when AMD’s 25.10.2 driver launched. AMD has dropped new game support for its Radeon RX 5000 and RX 6000 series GPUs. RDNA 1 and RDNA 2 GPUs no longer receive game-specific driver optimisations. While AMD has not explicitly mentioned RDNA 2-based integrated graphics solutions, there are fears that these GPUs are also no longer supported. This is bad news for ASUS/Microsoft’s ROG Xbox Ally (non-X) handheld, as it features an RDNA 2 GPU.
If AMD does not backtrack on its decision to end RDNA 2 gaming support, it will harm the brand’s reputation. This is especially true for the DIY PC building market, where consumers value long-term GPU support.
