KeplerL2, a prominent PC hardware leaker, has claimed that only one of AMD’s RDNA 5 GPU chips will launch next year. This means that we should see RDNA 5-based hardware in 2027, but that we will need to wait until 2028 to see much of AMD’s next-generation GPU lineup.
If this leak is correct, only AMD’s next-generation “AT2” chip is due to release in 2027. This chip will reportedly replace the chip inside AMD’s RDNA 4-based RX 9070 XT graphics card. It will also reportedly power Microsoft’s Xbox “Project Helix” console (leaked specifications here).
Xbox “Project Helix” leaks indicate that the console will have 68 RDNA 5 Compute Units (CUs). That’s four more Compute Units than AMD’s RX 9070 XT graphics card (6.25% more). KeplerL2 also claims AMD’s RDNA 5 GPUs are targeting clock speeds of 3.1-3.4 GHz. This puts AMD’s RDNA 5 clock speed targets 4.3% to 14.4% higher than AMD’s RX 9070 XT.
Together, higher clock speeds and more Compute Units will make AMD’s AT2 chip at least 10.8-21.5% faster than its Radeon RX 9070 XT. This performance boost does not account for RDNA 5’s architectural enhancements or other performance-boosting characteristics.

AMD’s AT2 chip will power its next-generation gaming ambitions
If recent leaks are correct, AMD’s AT2 chip will power Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox console and act as a discrete GPU option for PC gamers. This suggests Xbox and PC gaming will be more tightly integrated than ever before. It is also worth noting that both MSI and ASUS reportedly plan to make 3rd party Xbox “Project Helix” systems. PC hardware manufacturers will reportedly make custom next-gen Xbox consoles!
Radeon’s AT2 chip will be incredibly important for AMD, and it will act as the heart of AMD’s RDNA 5 GPU lineup. If today’s rumours are correct, AT2 will be the first AMD RDNA 5 GPU chip to be released, arriving in 2027. More RDNA 5-based GPUs will arrive in 2028. Both larger and smaller RDNA 5-based GPUs are reportedly in development.
