ASUS reportedly rejects Nvidia ROG RTX 5090 Astral order at pre-hike pricing
Nvidia RTX 5090 buyer has their order refused following ASUS GPU price hike
Nvidia’s RTX 5090 pricing is crazy. On Nvidia’s website, the GPU has an official MSRP of £1799 ($1999 US). If you were to try and buy an RTX 5090 at this price, you would be laughed out of the room. In the UK, the cheapest RTX 5090 costs well over £3000. If you want a premium model, pricing becomes even more extortionate. Now, an Nvidia GPU order for an ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5090 BTF has reportedly been cancelled over pricing. Specifically, ASUS reportedly wouldn’t honour their prior GPU price.
A Reddit user called IndependentOk1031 ordered their GPU with a pre-tax price of $4,429. This GPU was ordered through Nvidia’s marketplace. When ASUS were asked to fulfil the order, they cancelled it. Between the time the GPU was ordered and the time to fulfil the order, ASUS raised their GPU’s price to $4,982, a $553 increase.
IndependentOk1031 was issued a full refund for their purchase. They stated that Nvidia and ASUS support staff have blamed each other for the issue.
So an update from yesterday, after my 5090 astral was canceled, I reached out to NVIDA to resolve the issue, they reached back out to me and said the issue was on ASUS end, reached out to ASUS, ASUS told me they have nothing to do with it, and sent me back to NVIDA, NVIDA once again says it’s on ASUS. This feels like a spider man meme. This isn’t to BASH ASUS OR NVIDA, there just needs to be better communication between the two companies for purchase. Also to clarify I was issued a refund, no one stole money from me, it’s more the fact they canceled at a lower price and if I wanted to buy again it would have to be at the increased price

Honestly, Nvidia’s RTX 5090 pricing is absurd. Nvidia’s official MSRP of £1799 does not reflect the market reality. In many countries, cancelling an order for this reason would be illegal. If an item was sold at a specific price, it should be delivered for that price. This should be the case even if a retailer makes a loss on that order.
So far, neither Nvidia nor ASUS has publicly commented on this issue. We will update this article if ASUS or Nvidia releases a statement.
