ASUS updates its RTX 5080/5090 ROG Astral GPUs with “more silent fan curve”

ROG updates its Astral series RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 GPUs to make them quieter

If you have read our review of ASUS’ ROG Astral RTX 5080 GPU, you will know that we did not like how noisy its fans were. This week, as spotted by Videocardz, ASUS has updated the VBIOS of their ROG Astral GPUs to give them a “more silent fan curve” in their “Quiet mode.” These updates should solve on of our main complaints about ASUS’ latest ROG GPUs.

With its new Astral series, ROG has adopted a new GPU design aesthetic and uses four cooling fans instead of three. This adds a push-pull cooling effect to part of the ROG Astral’s heatsink, enabling higher levels of cooling performance. Sadly, this design can make this GPU loud. Thanks ASUS’ new updates, the company’s new RTX 50 Astral series GPUs should be quieter, at least in “quiet mode.”
