Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 has a lot of performance issues

Another year, another sub par version of Call of Duty on PC. Reports are now flying in from hundreds of Steam users and even the the guys over at Techpowerup have reported that there are some severe issues with the latest instalment of Call of Duty.

Techpowerup had reported that they were able to fix the games issues on their setup by adding additional system memory to their PC, which is very surprising since the system already had 12GB of RAM. This was double the games minimum requirement of 6GB and really should not have been an issue for the game. After upgrading their system to 16GB of RAM the game was said to run “buttery smooth” on their test bed with a GTX 980Ti.

Before the launch of the game no recommended system requirements for the title were posted online, so many gamer simply assumes that if they ran the beta fine, or if their system was higher than the minimum specification that they would be fine, but this was not the case.

Right now there are over 700 negative reviews for the title, which is a lot considering that the game is only a day old and all of the voted for “most helpful” reviews are negative. Below is an example from Steam user Zadomos.

Don’t be fooled by all the positive reviews. This game has serious performance issues and is unoptimized. I suggest that if you want to buy this game, just wait. If you already bought it and are having issues with the game, look into the discussions to see if others are having the same problems, and don’t play over two hours because a refund will then be unavailable (save your playtime for if there are optimization updates so you can test the waters). If there aren’t any updates within the next two weeks regarding optimization or stability improvements, I will get a refund.

Call of Duty Black Ops 3 will run at 30FPS on Last Gen consoles

Below is the games minimum requirements and the features which Treyarch had originally promised.

Black Ops 3 PC features will include:

  • – 100% Ranked Dedicated Servers
  • – 2-Player Split Screen
  • – Seamless Game Controller Support
  • – Strong GPU scaling, SLI and Crossfire Optimizations, and 4K monitor support make the game look and run great at full 4K resolution
  • – FOV Slider
  • – Framerate Cap Slider
  • – Improved Text Chat features available in-game and also now in lobbies.
  • – Fantastic Steam Trading Cards – collect them all!
  • – Treyarch Anti-Cheat (TAC)

We also have the game’s minimum system requirements, which are not overly high for a modern game.

  • – Operating System: Windows 7 64-Bit / Windows 8 64-Bit / Windows 8.1 64-Bit
  • – Processor: Intel® Coreâ„¢ i3-530 @ 2.93 GHz / AMD Phenomâ„¢ II X4 810 @ 2.60 GHz
  • – Memory: 6 GB RAM
  • – Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce GTX 470 @ 1GB / ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 6970 @ 1GB
  • – DirectX: Version 11
  • – Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • – hard Drive: 60 GB Available Space
  • – Sound Card: DirectX Compatible

Right now a lot of the games issues seem to be fixed by adding more RAM to your system, though with the minimum requirements being so low it is unknown why certain users are having such high memory usage. Hopefully Treyarch have seen this issue and are working to address it.
