Gamers brave freezing temps for Scan UK’s RTX 50 launch event
Scan Boss buys pizza for RTX 50-series launch queue
Scan Computer in Bolton became an overnight camping site ahead of its official RTX 50 series launch event later today. Many brave souls camped through freezing temperatures to secure their place in line for a brand new RTX 5080 (review here) or RTX 5090 (review here) graphics card. They will be amongst the first gamers in the UK to purchase Nvidia’s newest graphics cards, stepping ahead of online customers.
Last night, temperatures in Bolton dropped to -2 degrees Celsius. As a show of support, Scan’s Founder and Chairman, Shailendra Shelley Raja, greeted those in the queue and provided hot food to his most dedicated customers.
We’ve been told that people have travelled from as far away as Ireland to attend Scan UK’s launch event. There have also been people camping there since Tuesday. We were even told that there was a pregnant lady in the queue. These people want an RTX 50 series GPU, and they will get one later today. Note that launch event was co-sponsored by Nvidia and ASUS ROG.

Scan UK’s RTX 50 series launch event
Scan Computers is hosting the UK’s only official RTX 50 series launch event. As said above, this is a Nvidia and ASUS ROG-sponsored event. GPUs will be available starting at 2 pm from all brands, and the company has dedicated GPU stock that will only be available to in-store customers. Furthermore, attendees will get exclusive access to a “Limited Edition Launch Hoodie + Merch” if they are one of the first 100 customers in the queue. Attendees will also be able to take part in competitions and giveaways.
ASUS ROG Event Activities and Prizes
Since ASUS ROG is co-sponsoring this event, we should discuss what they are doing on-site and online. Yes, an online competition exists for those who cannot attend this event in person. Obviously, this is great news for all UK Gamers.
First, ASUS has a “Spin The Wheel” competition for all purchasers of ASUS/ROG RTX 50 series GPUs. The following prizes will be available through his contest. Note that this contest will end when ASUS’ supply of prizes runs out.
- 10x £50 Game Vouchers
- 2x ASUS ROG Keris II Ace
- 10x ROG Herculx RGB
- 2x ROG Scope 296
- 20x ASUS ROG Ducks
Second, ASUS ROG will have a “social media hashtag” competition for UK gamers. The prize for the winner of this content is an ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM monitor. This 4K 240Hz OLED screen is perfect for Nvidia’s RTX 50 series GPUs. This competition celebrates the release of ASUS’ ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 GPU. Further details for this competition are available below.

(Pizza time!)
A long wait with good chat and tasty pizza
While I am sure some will argue with his choice of pizza company (Domino’s), I’m sure everyone in line enjoyed Shelley’s gesture. There’s nothing like some hot pizza on a cold night. From what we have heard from people on the scene, the line was filled with chatter and “great banter.” These queue campers were united in purpose, and they had a lot to chat about. I’m sure their talk of games and tech went deep into the night. Undoubtedly, these are some of the UK’s most dedicated gamers and PC enthusiasts. Props to them for braving the winter cold to get what they want.
