Intel to reveal ARC Battlemage GPU next month
A December launch for Intel Battlemage seems increasingly likely – Will Intel transform the GPU market?
A December reveal for Intel’s next-generation ARC “Battlemage” graphics cards looks increasingly likely, as another source has indicated that Intel will reveal next-generation GPU products this year. This would see Intel unveil their first Xe2-powered discrete GPUs, which will feature huge architectural improvements over their predecessors.
Intel revealed its Xe2 graphics architecture earlier this year, and our deep dive into it revealed a lot to look forward to. For starters, Xe2 features larger ray tracing units, new XMX (AI) engines, and much greater performance efficiency. In some Microbenchmarks, Intel’s new Xe2 architecture outperformed Xe by 1.2x to 12.5x. In other words, Xe2 delivers huge performance gains in weak areas of Intel’s prior graphics architecture.
While we don’t expect to see Intel compete in the ultra-high-end GPU market with Nvidia, Xe2 Battlemage GPUs should deliver some much-needed competition to the mid-range GPU market. A December 2024 reveal would place Intel’s GPU reveal ahead of AMD and Nvidia’s planned CES 2025 reveals. This will help Intel to grab the attention of gamers and industry analysts. Regardless, what Intel needs is a good product if they want to gain significant market share.

Intel has the potential to transform the GPU market with its ARC Battlemage GPUs. If they can provide solid performance and strong pricing, Intel has a chance to gain a serious foothold in the GPU market. That said, they will need to battle AMD and Nvidia for every inch of ground.
