LG boosts the gaming prowess of OLED with new 0.02ms panels
LG starts mass producing OLED gaming displays with 0.02ms response times
OLED monitors are quickly becoming the best high-end display option for gamers. Not only are they delivering high levels of image quality, but their fast response times and motion clarity makes gaming on an OLED screen better than gaming on traditional LCD screens.
LG has now pushed their OLED screen technology one step further with their newest 27-inch 480Hz 2560×1440 OLED displays. These new screens feature 0.02ms response times. That’s 0.01ms faster than today’s 0.03ms OLED screens.
While 0.01ms may not sound like much, it has a large impact. Not only are images appearing on-screen slightly faster, but this faster response time will reduce blurring/ghosting. OLED screens already excel in this regard, but this reduction in response time takes things one step further.
LG are aiming to deliver boosted motion clarity with their next generation of gaming OLED screens. This is great news for all gamers, especially players of fast-paced games.
LG Display, the world’s leading innovator of display technologies, announced today that it has begun mass producing its 27-inch 480Hz QHD Gaming OLED panel. The company is targeting the high-end gaming market with high-specification Gaming OLED displays that combine the industry’s highest refresh rate and fastest response time to keep up with rapidly growing demand for gaming displays.
The most important factors for gaming displays are refresh rate, the number of images displayed per second, and response time, referring to how long it takes to display graphics card signals.
This new product delivers the three-dimensional picture quality of LG Display’s OLED, requiring no backlighting as each pixel lights up on its own, along with a 480Hz ultra-high refresh rate, an industry best response time of 0.02ms, and QHD (2560×1440) resolution for an optimal gaming experience.
LG Display is the only company to have achieved a refresh rate of 480Hz on a Gaming OLED panel. The higher the refresh rate, the smoother and sharper the content, even during fast-transitioning scenes.
As well as the higher refresh rate, the new record response time of 0.02ms on a Gray to Gray (GTG) basis is 0.01ms quicker than the previous best of 0.03ms. Shorter response times, where every thousandth of a second counts, are especially advantageous for the pace of first-person shooters and racing games.
In addition, WRGB pixel structure optimization enhances the readability of text compared to conventional screens, while a four-sided borderless design based on minimized bezel width offers gamers an even greater sense of immersion.
LG has also been working to boost the performance of its OLED screens in other ways. For starters, their new META technology harnesses a Micro Lens Array (MLA) to maximise screen brightness and minimise reflections. Additionally, their new WRGB pixel structure enhances the readability of text, making their monitors well suited to both gaming and workstation use.
OLED technology is continuing to improve, and that is great news for both gamers and other PC users. Let’s just hope that future OLED screens are also more affordable!
