LG drives esports forward with 720Hz OLED monitor tech

LG pushes its OLED screen tech to 720Hz and promises a full range of OLED gaming screens

LG has officially launched its first 24.5-inch OLED esports display, delivering industry-leading specifications with a 720Hz refresh rate and 0.02ms response times. This screen will first be used with ASUS’ flagship ROG Swift OLED PG259QWS Ace monitor, the official monitor for the world’s major esports tournament, ‘PGL CS2 Major Singapore 2026.’

Alongside this 1080p 720Hz OLED panel, LG has stated that it has plans for “a full lineup of gaming OLED panels ranging from 20 inches to 40 inches, as well as proprietary technologies such as ‘DFR (Dynamic Frequency & Resolution).” So expect to see a wider range of gaming-oriented LG OLED screens in the near future.

LG has also confirmed that its new 24.5-inch 720Hz Gaming OLED has entered “full-scale mass production”, aiming to lead the mainstream adoption of OLED monitors within the esports gaming market.

How did LG hit 720Hz?

LG achieved this high refresh rate on its newest gaming OLED screen by using a “proprietary algorithm” to maintain stability at such high display speeds. This has allowed LG to achieve the highest stable refresh rates and fastest response times of all gaming OLED screens. This ensures maximised motion clarity and minimised ghosting.

Sadly, LG has not commented on the specifications of its other planned gaming OLED monitors. If LG’s “proprietary algorithm” works across other panel sizes and resolutions, we may see a major increase in maximum refresh rates across LG’s 2027 display lineup.
